Beitske Visser (16) takes sensational win in Dutch Supercar Challenge.

Beitske Visser is a well known face in the karting scene. Through her performances in this category, she earned an wildcard to participate in the Dutch Supercar Challenge (DSC), GT division in Assen. The GT division is the highest rated within the DSC.

Remember that Visser, 16 years old, had no experience with sport car racing. As could be expected there were some doubters, but Visser eagerly accepted the challenge.

The young lady started the race in 4^th and immediately took two places at the start. Laying second she fought with Niels Bouwhuis and overtook him for first place before the pitstops. During the pitstops Visser had to take an ‘25 resultseconds’ penalty. This penalty has to be served by wildcard drivers and simply means their pitstop takes longer. 

Visser was still second after her pitstop + penalty and immediately battled with Roger Grouwels for first. Grouwels was under alot of pressure, since Visser was clearly faster. After a couple of laps Grouwels made a mistake and Visser took first place. Sadly, not long after Visser was informed she had received a drive-through penalty, because the ’25 resultseconds’ penalty wasn’t taken correctly. 

She took the penalty and returned as third. A hard battle for second followed and after she managed to take the place, Grouwels was her next victim (again). She closed the gap quickly and made her move in Strubben (corner). Grouwels put up a hard fight though, but spun his car. After that Visser could cruise to the finish and managed to defeat all the experienced drivers in her sportscar racing debute, while being only 16 years old.

During the second race of the weekend Visser had to give up with a mechanical failure. All in all this was a very good debute and we will probably see much more of her in the future.
